"Back to the Future’s Time Machine from the saga’s third instalment will be at your disposal in this Car Pack. The driving experience of this Time Machine really sets it apart from the previous two versions, and of course, this one will also produce the iconic VFX of its movie counterpart when it reaches, you guessed it, 88 mph."—Official description[1]
The 1981 Universal Studios Back to the Future Time Machine 3 - abbreviated as "BTTF 3 TM" - is a rear-wheel drive sports car and a custom variant of the DeLorean DMC-12.
It appears in Forza Horizon 5 as part of the Universal Icons Car Pack, which debuted with Series 35.
Synopsis[]
The Back to the Future Time Machine 3 - also called the "DeLorean Time Machine" - is a recreation of the car driven by Marty McFly in the 1990 film Back to the Future Part III.
In the film, while in 1955, the Time Machine 2 accidentally time travels to 1885 due to a time circuit malfunction while Dr. Emmett "Doc" Brown is inside the vehicle. Then, a letter by Doc Brown kept for over 70 years states that the DeLorean is now buried in a mine and needs repair with 1955 parts. Its desintegrated tires are then replaced with whitewall tires, and many broken instruments are repaired with 1950s-era vaccuum tubes, as well as its time travel capacity with an improvised tube system strapped on the hood.[2]
In Forza Horizon 5, similarly to the Time Machine 1 and 2, it features LED lights around the rear end and the front bumper that activate a blue light when the car hits 88 mph (142 km/h), simulating the glowing effects when time traveling. It also weights 22 lb (10 kg) more than its previous counterparts.
