"Available only in Europe this could be the sportiest of Golf’s to date. Tons of horsepower from its 2.0 liter turbo make it a kick in the pants when pushed, and it can be pushed all the way up to a governor mandated 155 mph. In essence the Golf R has taken over for the R32 and being all wheel drive, it can be drifted or driven with civility."—Official description[1]
The 2010 Volkswagen Golf R - abbreviated as "VW Golf '10" - is an all-wheel drive hot hatch by Volkswagen.
It appears in Forza Motorsport 3 as part of the Road & Track Car Pack and as standard in all subsequent main series titles except Forza Motorsport (2023), although it is only available in Forza Horizon as part of the Pre-Order Car Pack.
Just like other Volkswagen vehicles, it does not appear in Forza Horizon 3.
Synopsis[]
The Golf R debuted for the 2010 model year to replace the Mk5 Golf R32 that was discontinued after 2008. It was offered alongside the front-wheel drive Mk6 GTI as the all-wheel drive performance model of the Mk6 Golf. The Forza series features the two-door model with the six-speed manual transmission option.
Developed to meet stringent fuel economy targets, the Golf R dropped the high-displacement VR6 engine of the Golf R32 in favor of an upgraded two liter turbo engine from the Mk5 GTI. Producing 267 hp (199 kW) at 6000 rpm and 254 ft·lb (345 N·m) of torque from 2500 to 5000 rpm, the EA113 engine offers both improved performance and superior efficiency over the VR6.[2]
The Golf R continued production until 2013 and was updated to the Mk7 Golf platform for the 2014 model year.

Trivia[]
- The official Forza Horizon description for this car incorrectly states it being only available in Europe. The Golf R was also sold outside of Europe from 2010 until 2013.
- The Golf R's description for the Road & Track Car Pack for Forza Motorsport 3 incorrectly mentions a twin-charged engine as its powerplant. The 1.4 TSI model with 158 hp (118 kW) was the only Mk6 Golf available with the last-mentioned engine configuration.
