Designed for tight and narrow city streets, the Golf R is just as happy on fast sweeping mountain switchbacks or curvy canyon roads. Its secret? An all-wheel drive and a uniquely boosted engine. The Golf R's 2.0-liter inline-4 Twin-Charge [sic] engine combines a supercharger with a turbocharger to produce 267 horsepower and 258 foot pounds of torque - extremely high for a vehicle of this class. Power is sent to a 6-speed DSG, or Direct Shift Gearbox, that can shift seamlessly between gears thanks to its F1-inspired dual-clutch setup. While the all-wheel drive system is heavily front-biased, its hydraulically actuated center differential can send nearly 100 percent of the power to the rear wheels when needed.
— Official description (Forza Motorsport 3[1]

The 2010 Volkswagen Golf R - abbreviated as VW Golf '10 - is an AWD hot hatch by Volkswagen featured in Forza Motorsport 3 as part of the Road & Track Car Pack and as standard in all subsequent main series titles except for Forza Horizon, where it is only available as part of the Pre-Order Car Pack, and Forza Horizon 3.

Unlock in Forza Horizon 4

It is primarily unlockable as a Wheelspin prize in Forza Horizon 4, but has also been made unlockable as a seasonal reward:

Synopsis

The Golf R debuted for the 2010 model year to replace the Mk5 Golf R32 that was discontinued after 2008. It was offered alongside the front-wheel drive Mk6 GTI as the all-wheel drive performance model of the Mk6 Golf. The Forza series features the two-door model with the six-speed manual transmission option.

Developed to meet stringent fuel economy targets, the Golf R dropped the high-displacement VR6 engine of the Golf R32 in favor of an upgraded two liter turbo engine from the Mk5 GTI. Producing 267 hp (199 kW) at 6000 rpm and 254 ft·lb (345 N·m) of torque from 2500 to 5000 rpm, the EA113 engine offers both improved performance and superior efficiency over the VR6.[2]

The Golf R continued production until 2013 and was updated to the Mk7 Golf platform for the 2014 model year.

Trivia

  • The Golf R's description for the Road & Track Car Pack for Forza Motorsport 3 incorrectly mentions a twin-charged engine as its powerplant. The 1.4 TSI model with 158 hp (118 kW) was the only Mk6 Golf available with the last-mentioned engine configuration.
