"When you think Volvo, the first thought to come to mind may be of safety and reliability. However, this race-bred homologation special should also inspire thoughts of performance that drove a half a decade of Group A racing. The 242 Turbo Evolution, also known as the Flatnose for its unique sheet metal, sports a large Garret turbocharger with intercooler as well as special springs and ventilated brakes. The 500 models created were almost all sold in the U.S., with some 30 models sent back to Europe to go racing. This is one brick that really flies."—Official description[1]
The 1983 Volvo 242 Turbo Evolution - abbreviated as "Volvo 242 Turbo" - is a rear-wheel drive sports car by Volvo.
It appears in Forza Motorsport 3 as part of the Community Choice Classics Car Pack, and as standard in Forza Motorsport 4.
It returns in Forza Horizon 3 as part of the Duracell Car Pack, and appears as standard in all subsequent main series titles except Forza Motorsport (2023).
Synopsis[]
The 242 Turbo Evolution is a limited run of turbocharged models that were sold in 1983 for Group A homologation. It was exclusively sold in North America, where it is known as the 'Flatnose' by car enthusiasts, referring to the unique European specification hood.
It is based on a light rear-wheel drive platform that only weighs 2141 lb (971 kg) and has a front weight distribution of 54%. The B21FT codenamed engine is a 2.1 litre inline-four with an overhead camshaft and turbocharging. It offers 225 hp (168 kW) and 250 ft·lb (339 N·m) of torque, and is paired with a five-speed manual transmission.[2]
