"The terms “sport” and “wagon” rarely come together, but Volvo has been building some of the safest and most exciting sportwagons for years. With a turbo-powered 5-cylinder engine making 240 horsepower you might forget you’re in a wagon pretty quickly, until you remember you might be hauling the kids and family dog with you. 1997 was the first year the Volvo wagons came with front-wheel drive in the U.S... The 850 R will hit 155 mph flat out and fares pretty well in the corners. It’s no lightweight, though, so copious braking is recommended. In all, if you have to drive a wagon but still desire performance the 850 R has got you covered."—Official description[1]
The 1997 Volvo 850 R - abbreviated as "Volvo 850" - is a front-wheel drive sport wagon by Volvo.
It appears in Forza Motorsport 4 as part of the April Alpinestars Pack. It returns in Forza Motorsport 6 and appears in all subsequent main series titles.
Synopsis[]
The 850 R was introduced in 1996 to satisfy the unexpectedly high demand of the limited-production T-5R.
Available in both sedan and wagon body styles, the 850 R came with a body kit and seven-spoke 17 inch wheels to emphasize its performance.[2] It is powered by a transversely mounted 2.3 liter turbocharged inline-five driving the front wheels.
It was replaced by the S70 R in 1997, which in turn was replaced by the S60 R in 2004.
